VANCOUVER BY FOOT AND BY CAR! 15,16/09/2017

Having seen how busy Vancouver could be traffic wise we decided to delay picking up the car until early evening and do our sightseeing on foot. This was no bad thing as we piled on the calories during our train journey and the chance to walk a few off could not be missed. 

On the previous evening we had found a nice bakery come cafe so we went there for breakfast. 
we also picked up a box of cookies to take to the offices of our fantastic travel agents Fresh Tracks Canada (link - Ed). We found the office block with some help from a passer by and were warmly welcomed by the staff, unfortunately the two main ladies who helped in planing our adventure were not available but the cookies were greatly received by everyone there.

Vancouver is a fantastic city with a wonderful seafront. Again with some help from some friendly Canadians and local maps were certainly put in the miles exploring from Gas Town at one end to Stanley Park at the other stopping off on the way for lunch. Again we will leave the pictures to do the talking.

Later in the afternoon we got very stressed when it came to finding the car hire office, not so much the bad directions but our inability to understand how the roads are laid out and signed. Find it we did and having completed the paperwork had to go to the 8th floor below ground to find our car! To our consternation we discovered it was an automatic which made it even more of a challenge for Roger (99% sure they are driving one of these. - Ed). With a few detours and several toots from irate locals we made it back to the hotel without injury to the locals or the car. Promptly handed it over to the valet staff who took it to the underground car park.

Our evening meal consisted of some goodies from the bakery and we spent quite a bit of time reorganizing the suitcases. We both decided that a really early start to avoid the traffic would be the best bet for the following morning for the journey from the hotel to the ferry terminal at Horseshoe Bay for our crossing to Vancouver Island.

This completes our short visit to Vancouver and we both agreed it was a far nicer place than Toronto.

 Firstly we must apologies for the lack of blogs over the last frew days! Our itinerary had been full on and a lack of free WiFi in our Vancouver Hotel didn't help matters. So to continue, on our return from the Lake Louise Gondola we returned to the hotel, sat outside for a while chilling and admiring the view and one final visit to the Gold Lounge for coffee and cookies. About 3pm were we met by our next guide for the short transfer to Banff. He took us via Bow Valley Lake for another photo opportunity. The hotel in Banff was OK but not quite up to the Fairmont Gold standard. Decided to go for a nice stroll around Banff and found a nice restaurant for dinner, as we had a fairly early start the next morning we decided that an early night was in order, our body clocks are still catching up. TORONTO SIGHTSEEING 05/09/2017

After our rather disturbed night we went down for breakfast which was OK if rather expensive for what it was. We then spent sometime reorganizing our suitcases in preparation for train journey starting later that evening. We had pre-booked a sightseeing hop on hop off open top bus tour as well as our early evening meal in the 360 Restaurant in the CN Tower. Our luggage was left in the hotel ready for collection later and we set off for the bus stop which wasn’t to far away.  As it was still quite early the buses were full and as part of the ticket included a boat ride on Lake Ontario we decided to go for this option as the weather was pretty good but rain was forecast for later in the day. We were able to get a good seat on the upper deck and really enjoyed the trip with a good guide giving a very informative and sometimes humorous commentary. LAKE LOUISE GOLD SEVICE AND A SURPRISE 10, 11/09/2017

On arrival at the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Hotel we were less than impressed when we had to wait for a bell-hop and trolley to take our luggage. The prices this place charges one would expect not to have to wait! Chuck fetched a bell-hop for us who whisked our luggage away saying it would be placed in our room. The entrance and reception area are huge with guests and members of staff rushing around, we identified a check-in area and gave our names to the nice young lady. Imagine our surprise when she informed us we had been up-graded to the Fairmont Gold accommodation package and because of this we could if we wished proceed directly to the 7th floor and continue our registration there.  We were both a bit overwhelmed and asked that lady to continue to book us in anyway. We eventually found the right elevator and proceeded to the 7th floor where we were met by a very pleasant young lady who proceeded to welcome us and explain all the perks of Gold Service.
