PARKSVILLE TO TOFINO MONDAY 18/09/2017

Our itinerary described this as follows "Today you make the short yet beautiful drive to Tofino and it is an adventure in itself". This has got to be the biggest understatement ever! Please google "Pacific Rim Highway" to get a full description of this amazing stretch of highway if you don't believe us.

(Here is a link to a YouTube video, of someone driving said highway. It has been sped up so only runs for 20 minutes. Maybe Lynda might like a reminder of what it was like! BCH4 always makes it on to dangerousroads.org too! - Ed)

We decided to stop at a place called Coombs Market where along with a full range of groceries and an excellent breakfast of which we indulged they also have a herd of goats on their roof! Further down the road we stopped at a beautiful section of old-grove trees known as Cathedral Grove, amazing western red cedar trees. As we drove higher into the mountains the rain became heavier, the hairpins sharper, the uphills steeper and the down hills more scary.  Didn't stop to take too many pictures as 100% concentration was required for driving. Only one near miss when we encountered a rather large logging truck on a sharp bend which made us jump to say the least. Thankfully the highway has places you can pull in but not stop to allow traffic that has built up behind you to overtake.

The last section of the highway towards Tofino is a much nicer drive and we soon arrived at our destination in the pouring rain.  We checked in to our room in the Duffin Cove Resort and we are pleased to say the view from our balcony is everything and more than we expected.

Only a few photos to accompany this post, but to make up for it there will be plenty in the next one.

Forgot to mention another interesting road sign you don't see often in the UK is one telling you,you are entering a Tsunami Zone!
