JASPER SIGHTSEEING 09,10/09/2017

To continue the story, we were picked up from the railway station and taken to our hotel. As the train was late we didn't have a lot of time to see anything that evening so we went for a bite to eat in one of Jasper's many restaurants managing to dodge most of the showers. We chose the Fiddle River restaurant which was recommended to us by our travel agents, Lynda had a pasta dish with scallops and prawns and Roger tried the meat loaf, both of which were really nice.

Both of us were looking forward to a good nights sleep in a bed that wasn't rocking and rolling!

Next morning we had an 0815 start on our nature tour to Maligne Lake with a cruise on the lake. Chuck our driver and guide was a very knowledgeable man and had some strong opinions on how the National Park should be managed especially the situation relating to the pine beetle and managing the environment with fire. First stop was the Maligne Canyon a really spectacular 49 m deep gorge. A short walk reveals the river as it thunders through the canyon in a series of waterfalls. Next stop was to the "Mysteriously" disappearing Medicine Lake, we won't bore you with all the details but you can always ask Google if you really want to know! (Wiki Link - Ed)  A short drive took us to Maligne Lake where we boarded our boat for a cruise which included a brief stop at the world-renowned Spirit Island. Hopefully some of the pictures we took will portray this truly picture-postcard setting. We were both impressed with the young lady who was the captain of our boat and the other young lady who was our guide. Back on the bus for our return to Jasper. That evening Lynda dined on pizza and Roger tried a meatball flat bread sandwich.Going to put some pictures in here now that relate to this part of our trip. (This post continues after these pictures! -Ed)

The next day was sightseeing and a transfer to out next hotel combined. The highlights were a drive along the Icefields Parkway, stopping at the Athabasca falls ,a drive out on to the Athabasca Glacier and a visit to the Glacier Skywalk. These last two attractions attract huge numbers of visitors but I'm please to say that they run a very slick operation and our guide did a great job. Again I'll leave the pictures to tell the story.

Our arrival at our next hotel and what happened will be in our next post!
